Welcome

My drug of choice is writing––writing, art, reading, inspiration, books, creativity, process, craft, blogging, grammar, linguistics, and did I mention writing?

It's Later Than You Think (Personal Update)

Yep. There's no post today (beyond this). Probably not tomorrow either. And in a day or two (as soon as I'm not either living in a hospital or taking care of a toddler so that Uberdude can live in a hospital) I'll tell you why. And you will say "We totally understand Chris!"

And it won't make anything better.

But for now let me just say this and please hear me: If your soul burns to write. Write. (Or draw. Or jump off cliffs in your motorcycle and hang glider. Or whatever.) Don't wait for the opportunity to be perfect or that one obstacle to go away or the time when work isn't going to be so rough or the kids to go to school or the planets to align or to get that snazzy laptop or when you can dig out the old sewing room and make it into an office. Find some time and space and write.

Because one thing you absolutely positively unequivocally do not have an endless supply of is tomorrows.

It's later than you think.

  1. The perfect reminder for us all. It's also somewhat ironic for me as I just finished posting this to my timeline:

We keep losing people, and I’m not even talking about those closest to us. Today we lost David Bowie after having just lost Lemmy. In 2015 we lost Leonard Nimoy, Scott Weiland, Yogi Berra, Wes Craven, Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Dick Van Patten, John Nash, B.B. King, Ernie Banks, and Christopher Lee, to name some. Many of these are names I grew up with, and a sure sign to me that I am getting older.

I’ll tell you this, if you’re not squeezing every moment of life out of every second, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Life is way too short to be unhappy. Grab what it is the excites you; hold it close until you are happier than you have ever been. Then, lose every single thing, that makes your life less than what you deserve.

While many of the names I mentioned lived full lives, that isn’t promised to any of us and you owe it to yourself to make the most of what you have. Live every, single, day, like there’s no tomorrow.

    There is no tomorrow.
