Happy 4th Of July

Except for the slavery thing and the women's rights and the non-land
owning gentry not being able to vote and the rampant bigotry and
did I mention the slavery thing(?) this was basically the time of the rockstar.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

I read once that someone went around with a copy of the second paragraph of The Declaration of Independence having only edited out the first sentence since it is so familiar, and something like 80% of Americans thought it was way too subversive to be taught in school. Don't ask me to cite that. It might even be an urban legend. But it's interesting to think about.

For all my readers from places who have cast off of their imperial shackles and specifically the ones in the North American colonies who wrote a big subversive fuck you that is probably as important to really understand today as it was in 1776, Happy Independence Day.
